BlueScope signs additional supply contract with BHP

Generally, fine iron ore is cheaper than the lump variety because it must be sintered before it can be used in a blast furnace.BLUESCOPE Steel has entered into a ten-year contract with BHP Billiton to secure an additional 730,000t of fine iron ore a year.
Australia’s largest steel maker already has an existing annual commitment for 4.3m tonnes of lump iron ore and fine iron ore.
Generally, fine iron ore is cheaper than the lump variety because it must be sintered before it can be used in a blast furnace.
According to BlueScope, it is changing the ore mix because of an upcoming sinter plant upgrade which would allow it to process more fine iron ore.
The new contract starts in July 2009 and ends June 2019. The price of the ore will be reviewed every three months.
