ISCAR has released a new family of turning inserts that have been treated to increase their durability.According to the distributor, the CVD and PVD carbide grade inserts have been treated with a SUMO TEC process which smooths the coated surface and reduces surface tension stresses in the insert coatings. The treatment is said to lead to cooler running, better chipping resistance, reduced built-up edge and longer edge life in all workpiece materials. The new treatment induces compression stresses, which seal cracks caused by internal tension during alumina coating. The seven new SUMO TEC turning grades include two for cast iron (IC5005/5010); three for steel (IC8150/8250/8350) and one for heat-resistant alloys and hardened steel (IC807).
