Fears of a tug-of-war over metal fabricators

JAPANESE gas company
Inpex’s decision to build a $12b gas plant in Darwin will see a David versus Goliath struggle over metal workers and other trades people.
According to horticultural industry advocate Tracey Leo, its rural projects could be under threat, because more than 4000 workers would be needed to construct the giant gas plant.
Many small scale farmers in the local areas will have to sell out, while bigger farmers will need to tussle for the manpower they need for their own projects.
There are fears local steel fabricators, repair technicians and concreters, already in short supply throughout Australia, will be working on the gas plant, leaving other projects short of staff.
