BETTA Machine Tools (BMT) is distributing a direct metal laser-sintering machine in Australia.According to the company, the EOSINT M 270 builds metal parts by fusing metal powder into a solid part by melting it locally using a focused laser beam. The parts are built up layer by layer. The precision afforded by this technology is said to allow for complex geometries to be created directly from 3D CAD data automatically. Most operations are complete in a few hours without tooling. The company claims the parts produced have high accuracy and detail resolution. The machine uses metals such as maraging steel, stainless steel and chrome cobalt to produce a good surface quality. The laser sintering system is said to have ergonomic peripheral devices and a high degree of automation. BMT will be displaying its other technologies at Austech 2008.
