National steel award winners announced

According to the awards organisers, the entries illustrate why Australian-fabricated steel is the preferred material when flexible and aesthetic design is required for robust structuresTHE AUSTRALIAN Steel Institute (ASI) has announced the winners of Australia’s inaugural steel awards program.
The awards were presented during the ASI’s annual national convention in Perth from 14 to 16 September 2008.
The presentation concluded the entire program, in which winners from state-level awards vied for the national accolades. Three categories were presented, in Architectural Steel Design, Metal Product Building Design and Structural Engineering Design.
The Architectural Steel Design category was won by Cox Architects and Planners for its work on the National Institute of Circus Arts in Victoria.
Suters Prior Cheney Architects won the Metal Building Product Design for the Boroondara Sports Complex project in Melbourne.
The Structural Engineering Steel Design category was taken out by Arup for its work on the Allianz Centre in Sydney.
