New generation of auto-darkening welding shields
AUSTRALIAN Welding Supplies has released the next generation of auto-darkening welding shields.
The 3M Speedglas 9100 series replaces the Speedglas 9000 series. It will feature at the National Manufacturing Week Exhibition from 27 May to 30 May 2008.
According to the company, the shield has optimised protection, comfort and performance. It changes how the welder wears the shield, resulting in what it claims is a more comfortable fit, stability, and balance.
The shield’s pivot point is located just above the welder’s ears. This, and the head harness system, is said to optimise the centre of gravity and keep the shield close to the welder’s head in both the up and down positions.
By closing the distance between the welder and the shield, the unit is said to feel lighter, more stable and more balanced. The shield’s lever effect is also reduced to minimise the forces on the user’s neck muscles.
The new head harness self-adjusts to match the welder’s head, and pressure is distributed along a row of twin-pads.
The auto-darkening welding lenses have uniform shading and is said to provide minimal distortion across the entire viewing area. It can be set to seven dark shade settings. Shade 5 is for gas welding and cutting, shade 8 is for micro-plasma and low-amp TIG welding, and shades 9 to 13 are for more arc welding processes.
