New-generation turn-mill centre

COLCHESTER-Harrison has announced it will launch a “new generation” of a global lathe range, an eight-axis, twin spindle, twin turret, turn-mill centre.
The Tornado will be the first new build released after the company restructured its machining and cell-based assembly strategy. According to the company, the mill-turn centre has been totally redesigned.
Research and development took one year to complete. The machine is said to be future proof, being the highest specific turn-mill centre which will serve as a flagship product for the company. It will be the basis for spin-off models which will take advantage of the modular construction and build techniques.
The company claims each machine will incorporate proven, high quality turrets, hydraulics and electrics from European and Japanese suppliers, with drives and controls software from Fanuc. The user interface is said to have been enhanced to improve ease of use and on-machine programming.
The new machine has a heavy duty cast bed which weighs almost 3 tonnes, while headstock and slideway castings are machined in-house.
