New versions of compact CNCs

The Mini Mill 2 is an upgrade on the original Mini Mill CNC machining centre, but with extended X, Y and Z travelsHAAS Automation has introduced two new compact computer numerical control (CNC) machining centres with extended travels on all three axes.
The Mini Mill 2 is an upgrade on the original Mini Mill CNC machining centre, but with extended X, Y and Z travels of 50.8cm, 40.64cm, and 35.56cm respectively. This represents a 10.16cm increase on each axis.
The new machine has a standard 40-taper spindle that spins at 6000rpm. Power is provided by a 7.5hp vector drive system.
A 101.6cm by 35.56cm T-slot table allows for multiple fixtures or a single or dual axis rotary table. Rapids are 15.24m/min, with 12.7m/min cutting speeds.
Standard control equipment includes a colour LCD monitor with USB port, a 10-pocket carousel-style tool changer and 1MB of memory for program storage.
There are options for a 20-pocket carousel tool changer or a 24+1 tool side-mount. It is also possible to upgrade to 4th and 5th-axis drives, a programmable coolant nozzle, high-speed machining software, a chip auger, and more.
The other new unit, the Super Mini Mill 2, is slated for release later in 2008. It is similar to the Mini Mill 2 but has high speeds and feeds and more options. It comes standard with a 10,000-rpm 40-taper spindle, a 15-hp vector drive system, a high-speed tool changer and 30.84m/min rapids.
The Super Mini Mill 2 is upgradeable with a 15,000rpm spindle, a high speed 24+1 tool side-mount tool changer, through-spindle coolant, and 4th and 5th axis drives.
Haas machines are available through Alfex CNC in Australia.
