Precise shoulder-milling tool

The manufacturer says the mill offers the benefits of high precision in applications using near net shape precision forgings and castingsSANDVIK Coromant has released a shoulder-milling tool which uses four-edged inserts.
The CoroMill 490 is said to reduce costs by up to 25% for face and shoulder milling operations in small to medium batch sizes. The manufacturer claims the mill replaces other tools in a variety of operations such as contouring, edging, semi- and finish-boring, and slot milling.
According to the company, by using four-edge inserts with special geometry design and new grades, the mill needs less cutting force. This results in a smoother profile and cuts the machining time for the finish.
The manufacturer says the mill offers the benefits of high precision in applications using near net shape precision forgings and castings. The tool can turn out a finished product in one pass.
The CoroMill 490 uses the company’s new generation of milling grades which are said to have tight tolerances and unique geometries. They produce thin chips and are predictable.
