Primers to the metal casting process

AUTOSPEED has posted a primer on the metal casting process which looks at how casted items are produced.
While Autospeed is an automotive website, the three-part guide will look at the limitations and benefits of the casting process.
Casting is said to be advantages for small batches of items. Casting is often preferable to fabrication or machining of these parts, due to advantages in appearance, strength and cost.
The articles will look at aluminium for the most part, because the metal is easy to cast, easy to machine, and can sometimes be heat-treated. The metal is also rust-resistant, and can be powder-coated or painted.
Part one of the articles is already online, and looks at some background, and sand casting.
