Rigid mill-turn centres

GERMANY-based Index Werke has released its redesigned mill-turn centres which are said to have twice the rigidity of its predecessors, resulting in greater metal removal rates.
According to the company, a higher resonant frequency (RF) indicates greater inherent stiffness in a machine tool’s structure, in turn making it more difficult for machining forces to induce vibration.
The redesigned SpeedLine C-type mill-turning centres have improved RF measurements. The lathe builder claims this allowed the depth of cut to be increased during machining, to maximise metal removal rate.
The company also said the lowering of machine tool vibration ensured good surface finish, prolonged tool life, and reduced noise levels.
