Small Widgee fabricator to work on giant drilling rig
A WIDGEE-based fabricator will be building sub-bases for a 25m, 44t drilling rig, said to be one of the biggest of its classes in Australia.
Widgee Welding Works is working on the oil and gas drilling rig to make it self-sufficient and compliant with Australian standards. The rig is destined for Narrabri, NSW.
According to the company, the modification of the rig would entail more than 1000 man hours. It will be employing five more workers from the local area to deal with the challenge.
The business started out as a general steel fabrication workshop with two people in a small shed. It has since expanded and formed a firm working relationship with the AJ Lucas Group.
