CUSTOM Group says it has received a $2m automated sheet metal bending cell which will allow it to bend sheet metal faster, more intelligently and in batch sizes numbering as little as a single unit.
Custom Group specialises in sheet metal fabrication and light assembly. According to the company, the Salvagini P4 2525 fully automated bending machine will allow it to cater to a gap in the fabrication market and accommodate small orders or once-off scenarios.
Custom Group’s P4 2525 automated sheet metal bending cell is not the first Salvagini in Australia, although it is arguably the first in the contract sector with a 254mm bending height. Unlike press brakes, it has no setup time, and is expected to be useful in full turnkey manufacturing.
According to Custom Group, its new fabrication capabilities should interest many potential clients, including compressor manufacturers, manufacturers of anything that has a system with casing around it, van interior fit-out companies, cabinet makers, and water heater manufacturers.
Custom Group claims the Salvagini P4 will also allow it to assist those working with prototypes and re-engineering. The machine is driven by software which allows accurate bending and repetition.
The software also examines the way jobs are engineered. This allows optimisation of projects and a reduction of the amount of steel needed to complete a job.
The speed of the machine and its ability to make non-conventional folds means Custom Group has been able to reduce the gauge in sheet metal thicknesses on some jobs without compromising the final product’s strength.
