Metals research centre appoints plasma specialist CEO

METALS research body CAST Cooperative Research Centre (CAST CRC) has appointed Dr. George Collins as its Chief Executive Officer.

According to the company, Dr. Collins is an internationally recognised researcher in plasma surface engineering, and has previously been Director of the CRC for Welded Structures, Biomedical Imaging Development and Defence Materials Technology Centre.

The new CEO will commence his role on 15 September 2008. He is currently Chief of Research and a member of the Senior Executive at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.

As a researcher, Dr. Collins helped develop the Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation technique to enhance the wear resistance of a range of metal alloys. He holds a PhD in Plasma Physics from the University of Sydney and has worked on fusion-related plasma physics in Switzerland.
