Stainless steel forum

THE Australian Stainless Steel Development Association (ASSDA) has opened sponsorship and trade booths bookings for the PacRim Stainless 2008 forum.

The forum will be held in Townsville, Queensland from 30 October to 31 October 2008. It will aim to be a venue for discussing domestic and international issues affecting the stainless steel industry in the Pacific Rim region.

According to the forum organisers, the recent emergence of many new grades of stainless steel has propelled the industry into a period of new challenges requiring innovative solutions.

The forum is said to have a comprehensive speaker program, and will also feature trade booths, a social program for networking, and a site visit to the BHP Billiton Yabulu refinery.

Speakers include the president of Outokumpu Group and a director from Jindal Stainless Steel. Papers and topics to be presented include trade mix and price factors, the use of stainless steel materials in the transport sector, and fabrication clusters.
