A TOOLMAKER at Toyota’s Altona Plant is a finalist in the 2009 WorkSafe Victoria Awards in the category of Health and Safety Representative of the Year.
Phyl Hilton has been a health and safety representative for 10 years. He represents 27 members in the trades department within the Press shop, and identifies opportunities for safety improvements at his workplace.
According to the award organisers, Hilton has played an integral part in many initiatives, being involved in designing and constructing weld bay facilities, procuring portable fume extractors and developing press plant policies in English and Japanese.
Phyl was also part of the Traffic Management Control Working Party and took part in the Working at Heights and Trades Hazard Mapping projects.
Hilton, along with four other finalists in the category, was selected from 118 applications received from across Victoria.
The WorkSafe Victoria Awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a significant contribution to improving health and safety in their workplace. They are a highlight of Work Safe Week which runs from 26 to 30 October 2009.
