3000 tonnes of steel for port

Steelpipe Australia’s spiral weld capability means the company will continue to contribute to infrastructural projects in the State.STEELPIPE Australia will reconstruct North Quay Berth 10 at Fremantle Ports using more than 3000 tonnes of tubular steel piling.
The $5.9m contract is said to be an indication of the capability and capacity of local manufacturers and steel fabricators to compete with overseas work units.
The company will team up with WA sub-contractors Park Engineers, Steelhaul, Boyd Metal and Waterside Welding and Fabrication for the project.
The Fremantle Ports contract is the company’s largest contract to date. It claims to have already begun work on Berth 10, whose upgrade is associated with the planned deepening of the Fremantle Inner Harbour to provide increased draft capacity for bigger ships.
The steel piling for the upgrade will be sourced with help from the Australian Steel Institute. According to the Institute, Steelpipe Australia’s spiral weld capability means the company will continue to contribute to infrastructural projects in the State.
