HOBART Brothers has released a low hydrogen stick electrode which can weld through moderate rust levels.According to the company, its Hobart 418 stick electrodes can improve weld quality and productivity during low-hydrogen welding. It is said to have good arc starts and restarts, a spatter-free arc, and creates a flat weld bead profile with a rippled finished appearance. The electrode has removable slag that is self-peeling. It can penetrate through rust, and produces a weld puddle that washes into the sidewalls with no undercutting to minimise rework. The company claims the electrode can be used in conditions where there is high heat and humidity, because it has low moisture absorbing characteristics. It can also be used in temperatures as low as negative 45 degrees Celsius.
