Failed water-cooling stops steel slab production

According to the steelmaker, 12,000 to 15,000t of slab production will be lost as a result of this malfunctionBLUESCOPE Steel has stopped its New Zealand slab-making operation after their water-cooling system failed.

The production stop is expected to last between seven to 10 days, while repairs are in progress.

According to the steelmaker, 12,000 to 15,000t of slab production will be lost as a result of this malfunction. The operation usually produces about 600,000t of slabs per year.

The company says the incident will have “minimal” impact on supply to customers.
