ROYRESEARCH is distributing a one-step metallurgical conversion and metal surface treatment coating for stopping creep rust in Australia.
Rass-O’-Nil forms a deposit when it is applied to metal. This deposit is said to anchor permanently onto the metal’s micro-structure. According to the manufacturer, the metal can be bent, punched, drilled or heated up to 350 degrees Celsius without stripping off the coating.

Previously, rust, dirt and oil could only be cleaned from metal surfaces through a seven-tank phosphating process. The Rass-O’-Nil technology replaces this with a two-tank water fusion cold conversion process. It can also remove mill scale in one tank, replacing acid pickling.
According to the distributor, there is no waste produced by the process, the chemical is non-flammable, and it works at room temperature.
It can be used for a range of coating and finishing applications, for preparing surfaces for coating or electro-deposition and for optimising metals for welding. It also finds application in treating metal structures near the sea in order to block corrosion.
Metal treated with Rass-O'-Nil and then painted has passed the standard salt spray test: it can withstand 900 hours of salt spray.
