Increasing metal prices affect dam construction

THE ACT Government says the project to enlarge Cotter Dam and other water security construction projects could experience a cost blow-out because of increasing prices of steel.THE ACT Government says the project to enlarge Cotter Dam and other water security construction projects could experience a cost blow-out because of increasing prices of steel.
The revelation came as the government announced the companies that will partner with ACTEW and ActewAGL to design and construct the enlarged Cotter Dam and other water projects.
Initial expectations are the dam enlargement will cost around $145m.
However, the ACTEW says those are only estimates, and could change because of prices of steel fluctuating upwards.
The costs could be passed on to the taxpayer. The price of water in the ACT is already slated to increase in July to pay for the upgrades.
