The steel maker says it is important to ensure the emissions trading scheme does not result in worse economic and environmental outcomesONESTEEL claims the Federal Government has given its assurances that the steelworks operator will be part of the consultation for the emissions trading scheme.

The company’s representatives met South Australian Premier Mike Rann on 18 July 2008 and discussed the implications of the “green paper” on business costs.

The Premier said the company would be seriously affected by the emissions trading scheme, while OneSteel says it is examining the details of the green paper.

The steel maker says it is important to ensure the emissions trading scheme does not result in worse economic and environmental outcomes. It says it will work with the government to mitigate any negative impact.
