Steel service centre in western Sydney
BLUESCOPE Steel has opened a steel service centre in western Sydney, which will produce over 120,000 tonnes of Colorbond steel per year.
The steel produced by the Erskine Park centre will be enough to supply roofing for over 80,000 homes. The facility is said to be the first Sydney-based paint-line for BlueScope.
According to the company, the service centre includes creative application of steel throughout the building. The exterior uses walling made from Colorbond steel in an array of different colours to create a chequerboard pattern.
The manufacturing processes are also said to have been optimised at the facility. Rainwater captured from the roof is filtered and stored in two 750,000L tanks. It is then reused in the paint-line processing equipment.
