SmartTCP adds laser seam tracking capabilities to its automatic welding solution

SMARTTCP says its automatic welding solution is now available with laser seam tracking capabilities for more precise and efficient robotic welding.

According to SmartTCP, it will be demonstrating this new functionality at the 2009 FABTECH International & AWS Welding Show from 15 to 18 November in Chicago, US.

The capability of sensing in real time the actual parts to be welded is a key attribute in adding laser vision functionality to help accommodate a wide variation in part positioning.

The company says is has customized a laser vision system from UK based Meta Vision and integrated it into its automatic offline programming software for small batch production. The new product offering consists of hardware and software which includes off-the-shelf components, easy-to-use programming and integrated laser seam tracking.

The integration of laser vision technology into the SmartTCP solution is said to offer manufacturers a hybrid way of seam searching and tracking, touch sensing and through-the-arc as well as laser vision.

This allows for an efficient automatic way to weld an even greater variety of small batch fabrications and thereby increase production, reliability and quality.
