HOUGEN Manufacturing is celebrating its 50th anniversary by honouring the legacy of its founder Doug Hougen.
According to the company, Hougen saw an opportunity to speed up auto body repair and invented a spot-weld cutter that simplified the process. The spot-weld cutter quickly cut around welds without damaging the underlay panels.
He also saw an opportunity to improve hole-making speed in heavy gauge steels and thus invented the Rotabroach Annular Cutter. These cutters used less horsepower and thrust, yet could cut clean holes three times faster than other tools at the time.
Later on, Hougen invented the first lightweight, truly portable electromagnetic drill, the model M-277, developing the technology from the annular cutter.
These inventions were patented, and led to the founding of Hougen Manufacturing, which specialises in making clean and accurate holes in metal.
Other hole-making equipment from Hougen Manufacturing include the HMD505 quill-feed magnetic drill, the HMD115 truck frame drill, and the HMD904S swivel base drill.
Hougen Manufacturing’s equipment is distributed in Australia by IMATECH.
