Metal recycling technology to be applied commercially

INTEC says it has entered into an in-principle agreement to implement the first commercial-scale application of its metal recycling technology.

The company is keeping quiet about who the agreement is with, because the agreement will only be formalised on or before 31 October 2008. However, it says the deal will upgrade its metals recycling program.

The enhanced project will take multiple mineral concentrate and industrial waste materials as feedstocks, in order to produce high-purity copper and lead metal products via a process called ‘electrowinning’.

By-products of the procedure include high-grade zinc sulphide, silver, gold and indium.

According to the developers, the Intec Metals Recycling technology does not produce liquid effluents or gaseous emissions. It uses low temperatures and does not use cyanide.
