Millatec Engineering opens centralised factory

MILLATEC Engineering opened a new factory in Brisbane on 9 March 2010, centralising its facilities under one roof.

Millatec Engineering supplies machined precision components requiring a high level of tolerance and quality to the medical, defence, telecommunications, avionics, food and beverage, mining and tube making industries.

The 1700 square metre facility at Sherwood combines its CNC machining with its turning and grinding equipment, which it had obtained when it acquired BPG Engineering in 2007.

The acquisition meant Millatec Engineering had been operating out of two factories. According to the manufacturer, having one location for all its staff and equipment means it will be able to fill orders more rapidly.

The precision components supplier has customers which include BAE Systems, DSTO, CSIRO, Ellex Medical, Orrcon, One Steel, and Surtron.

Millatec Engineering has also entered into a seven year collaborative research agreement with the Defence Materials Technology Centre, giving it access to the defence industry supply chain network, and researchers who are developing new product lines and processes.

Millatec is currently working with BAE Systems’ research team in Adelaide on benchmarking and other titanium machining activities, and Seco Tools and researchers from CAST on new methodologies and tool geometry to cut stainless steel.
