PAGE Steel says it won a major contract to fabricate and erect two distribution warehouses for Aldi, using 5000t of steel from OneSteel.

Page Steel will complete one warehouse at Sydney and another at Victoria. All the OneSteel-supplied steel was fabricated at the company’s Derrimut workshop.

When Page Steel was awarded the project, it needed to manage the shop detailing, order the steel and process it while the civil works were being prepared on site for the erection of the steel.

Page Steel used new CNC technology to fabricate all the steel components in house, using OneSteel 300PLUS. It used Steeltrack software to ensure full traceability, and each part had a barcode which allowed recording and tracking all aspects of production.

Page Steel says its new high definition plasma machine allowed it to process plate up to 32mm thick, 3000mm wide and 12,000mm long. For plates thicker than 32mm, the company uses a CNC oxy cutter.

Page Steel entered into an agreement with OneSteel for a steady supply of the 300PLUS steel product. According to the company, this allowed it to avoid the volatility of the steel prices and supplies during a time when there was a high demand for steel.

300PLUS structural steel sections have strengths exceeding the requirements of the Australian Standard for 300 Grade steel. According to OneSteel, 300PLUS allows for less material to be used per building, resulting in environmentally sustainable and economical steel structures.
