ROMHELD Automation is distributing a range of energy efficient clamps for sheetmetal workholding applications.
The Eco-clamps are manufactured by Tunkers Maschinebau, which specialises in clamping systems for automotive body shop applications. They will be distributed in Australia by Romheld.
The clamps use a reduced amount of compressed air via a special drive cylinder with integrated valve unit. The valve unit controls the idle and working strokes on the basis of differing compressed air demand.
According to the distributors, this is important because compressed air has an energy efficiency of less than three percent. Less air consumption equates to drastically increased energy savings. The clamps offer a reduction of about 48% in compressed air consumption, equating to an equivalent 25kg per annum reduction in carbon emissions.
The Eco-clamps are similar in size and performance to the K-series of power clamps which are broadly used in the Australian automotive sector and are available in sizes 50 and 63.
They can be used in sheetmetal workholding applications such as welding, finishing and assembly.
