Coating worker’s legs crushed by 400kg of steel

A WORKER at Transblast Coating Services in Queensland had his legs trapped under 400kg of steel for 50 minutes.

The accident at the Carole Park workplace occurred at 9pm on 14 August 2008.

According to paramedics, the 28-year-old man was conscious while rescue personnel tried to lift the steel off his legs. Ambulance offers could only provide pain relief.

Authorities say both his legs were crushed in the incident, with paramedics unable to detect a pulse in his foot.

Workplace Health and Safety is investigating the incident.
